Opening in Eskura—the Human Rights Educational Resource Centre in Aiete

The Basque government, the District Council of Gipuzkoa and the Donostia-San Sebastián Cityhall have signed an agreement to open a Human Rights Educational Resource Centre in Aiete called “Eskura”.

The centre’s mission is to promote human rights education and make available educational modules; audio-visual items; literary works, texts and music to the Basque public. It is an additional support to the existing human rights education and memory infrastructure in the Basque Country, and the work conducted by different social institutions and agents. The centre will focus on creating a media library and organising two annual events: an international seminar and a local fair on human rights educational resources. The presentation took place this morning at the Aiete Palace in the attendance of the president of the Basque Country, Iñigo Urkullu; the chief counciller of Gipuzkoa, Markel Olano; and the mayor of Donostia/San Sebastián, Eneko Goia. The three instituations explained that the centre “Eskura” will compile, create and disseminate resources that will foster educational, social and participatory pedagogy. The centre begins its activities today with the signature of this agreement. The first phase will conclude on 30 June 2019.
